Glock 19 gen 4 vs gen 5 9mm pistol

Some people love Glocks and some people don’t.   The Glock 19 is one of the most popular pistols in the world.  I admit that I like them myself and own a few of them.  Now, don’t misunderstand me and think I don’t like other brands just because I like Glocks.  There are few manufacturers of firearms I don’t like.

Glock released their latest addition of their series to a mixture of excitement and disappointment depending on whether or not you like Glock.

Glock 19 Gen 5 New Features

The latest generation of the Glock 19 includes some of the features that customers have been asking for including the removal of the finger grooves and improvement in the trigger.

Some other changes include a new barrel that is supposed to help improve accuracy.  There is also changes to the internal safety and beveling of the front slide and the addition of a flared mag well.

When I first saw the new generation Glocks I wasn’t sure if I liked them or not.  The changes didn’t seem to be enough for me to buy one.  However, after handling one I decided to add it to my collection.

The grip on the new Glock feels great even though I have no problem with the finger grooves on the gen 3 and gen 4 models.  I like having them on my gen 4 and I like not having them on my gen 5.  I certainly understand why some people don’t like them and the gen 5 feels very good in my hand.

Glock 19 Gen 4

The Glock 19 is one of the most popular handguns in the world

Like the gen 4, the gen 5 comes with a couple different size backstraps that can be added to customize the grip on the pistol.  For some time, I used the large backstrap on my gen 4 but decided to try it without it and left it completely off both pistols.

Changes to the trigger are small but do make a little difference in how it feels when shooting.  It’s easy to tell however that it is still a Glock.

Criticism and final thoughts

One criticism I’ve heard from others and agree with myself is the slide to frame fit, especially at the muzzle end.  The bevel of the frame does not match the bevel on the end of the slide.  It is a little rough if you run your finger over it.  I really think they could have done a better job and made it fit a little better then they did.

Over all, I like the Glock gen 5.  There is not a firearms manufacturer out there which makes a gun someone couldn’t find a flaw with.

As far as choosing the gen 4 or the gen 5, I don’t think you could go wrong either way.  They are both very reliable, fun to shoot.  The Glock 19 model is one of the best sized guns for concealed carry for me.
