AR 15 backup Iron Sights on Defensive guns

The AR 15 rifle is very popular and used for hunting, sport shooting and self defense.  Any weapon you use for self defense needs to be as reliable as possible. A quality optic is an important part of any gun, especially one you use to protect yourself.  Optics can fail and a good set of AR 15 backup iron sights can keep you in the fight.

Optics are one of the first items added to these rifles and red dots are a very popular choice.   Red dot optics are very effective and fast at acquiring your target.  Quality optics should give you years of trouble-free service.  It is unfortunate that the best optics still fail.

Backup Iron Sights come in many styles

Many different styles of backup iron sights are available.  Co-witnessing with your backup iron sights and optic gives you the ability to acquire your target quickly if your optic fails.  Misalignment between your optic and backup sights indicates problems also.

Sights on my gun

The Vortex Strikefire is a great optic for an AR 15 and balances cost and quality very well. My rifle also has a set of backup iron sights.

The AR 15 pistol I built is an additional tool for home protection and will fit in my bugout bag.  The gun has been reliable and accurate.  I haven’t decided on the optic for this pistol.  However, I have already added a set of Ozark Armament flip up sights.

I considered several different sights before settling on the Ozark.  Magpul makes a good backup sight and I have a set on another rifle. I have a Vortex Strikefire on my M&P AR 15 that have performed well.

Affordable and good

Ozark Armament sights are made from aluminum and are adjustable for windage and elevation.  The sights are very stable and easy to adjust.

There are cheaper sights available that are not worth the money.  It is important to research the type of backup sights you put on your gun.
